Ameluz gel and LED

Ameluz is a prescription topical gel used specifically in conjunction with the BF-RhodoLED lamp using red light to treat mild to moderate actinic keratosis (AK) on the face and scalp.

Actinic keratosis is a potential pre-cancerous legion caused by prolonged exposure to the sun and UV rays that come in the form of scaly growths mostly red in color but can be light, dark tan, white, pink/flesh-toned, or a combination of these colors. AK is most often felt before being seen; patients often describe the feeling as comparable to running fingertips over sandpaper. While most actinic keratosis is initially benign, it can develop into any type of skin cancer, including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common form of skin cancer.

The Ameluz gel combines penetration-promoting nanoemulsion technology with aminolevulinic acid (photosensitizing agents) to improve the delivery of the pharmaceutical ingredients in Ameluz, allowing for rapid tissue penetration. Ameluz is spread in a thick layer on the affected area of the skin and illuminated by the BF-RhodoLED lamp, activating the ingredients in Ameluz and damaging the cells of the actinic keratosis lesions.

To determine if Ameluz with BF-RhodoLED is the right treatment for you, please schedule a consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists.
