The PicoSure focused lens array is a relatively new laser that is used for photorejuvenation. PicoSure is a 755 nm laser that delivers energy at the incredibly fast speed of a trillionth of a second. This laser was initially developed for tattoo removal and is still used for such, however, there is a second-hand piece for the laser that allows for gentle resurfacing. This handpiece breaks the laser light into many fine “micro” focuses of energy that actually mimics fractional resurfacing, such as with Fraxel. These micro pulses of energy result in collagen and elastin production.
PicoSure is FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles, sunspots, and acne scars and as such is a great option for photorejuvenation. It is similar to Fraxel and other non-ablative resurfacing lasers as it improves freckles, brown spots, fine lines, skin texture, and skin brightness; however, PicoSure is less painful during the treatment and the subsequent “downtime” is reduced. Most patients are red and swollen for less than one day. Brown spots will get darker and peel off, but there is no roughness or dryness of the skin that follows after Fraxel. At MDLSV we are using this laser for resurfacing the face, in addition to the chest, arms, and legs.
PicoSure is also the world’s first safe and effective picosecond tattoo removal laser. PicoSure laser tattoo removal requires fewer treatment sessions, offers better results, and has faster patient recovery times compared to traditional tattoo removal lasers.

PicoSure Before and After
“Let me first say that I love this group. I have been going to these doctors for years, primarily Dr. Margaret Weiss. Wonderful! Yesterday I had my very first laser procedure (PicoSure) for my sun damage hyperpigmentation. The staff was wonderful as usual. I am very happy with these results. Thanks to Dr. Mahoney and all involved! Until next time…”
