What is Skin Cancer?
Sun damage and heredity are the biggest (but not only) factors in developing skin cancer. Our doctors located in Baltimore, Maryland can diagnose precancerous actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and the most dangerous malignant melanoma. Treatments offered include laser surgery (Erbium:YAG and CO2), curettage and electrodesiccation, shave removal, cryosurgery or liquid nitrogen, and/or topical medications.
CAUSES
Skin cancer is primarily caused by damage to the DNA of skin cells, often due to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds. This damage can trigger mutations that lead to uncontrolled cell growth, resulting in cancerous tumors. Other factors, such as a weakened immune system or exposure to toxic substances, can also contribute to the development of skin cancer.
RISK FACTORS

SYMPTOMS
The most common symptoms of skin cancer include new or changing moles, spots, or growths on the skin. These may appear as irregularly shaped moles, sores that do not heal, or patches of skin that are red, scaly, or bleed easily. Skin cancer can also manifest as a pearly or waxy bump (basal cell carcinoma), a flat, scaly lesion (squamous cell carcinoma), or a mole that changes in color, size, or shape (melanoma).
