What is CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a revolutionary procedure for non-surgical fat reduction. At Maryland Dermatology Laser Skin and Vein and its MD Body Sculpting Center, our team actually helped in pioneering this important new technology and played a role in the FDA clearance process.  As a result, this gentle and non-invasive method for reducing unwanted fat deposits is now readily available across the country. MDLSV also offers the new DualSculpting treatment method, which utilizes two CoolSculpting machines simultaneously to provide patients with fat reduction on multiple areas of the body in a fraction of the time.

What’s the science behind CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting freezes fat cells in order to kill them. The scientific process is called cryolipolysis, a hybrid of cryogenic lipolysis. Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive method of tissue cooling that can effectively target and reduce stubborn fat deposits that haven’t responded to diet and exercise. This process is safe and effective for natural body contouring.

What are the benefits of CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting has many major benefits. It’s non-invasive, requires no anesthesia, and has no risk of blood loss or complications. It doesn’t require any needles or cuts, and the entire process usually has only slight discomfort, if any. You may feel a sensation of intense cold at the start of the treatment, but this disappears quickly as the targeted area is numbed. During the procedure, you can relax and listen to music, read, and even do work on your laptop. DualSculpting has the added benefit of freezing more areas of unwanted fat in less time with fewer treatment sessions, cutting the time in half.

What are the side effects of CoolSculpting?

There is little to no downtime after a CoolSculpting treatment. Generally, patients can return to their everyday activities immediately afterward.  Side effects are usually minimal and may include redness, minor bruising, or numbness of the skin. These typically subside within just a few days. Rarely, people may have some discomfort after extensive treatment.

Am I a candidate for CoolSculpting?

It’s important to have a thorough consultation with a board-certified, trusted dermatologist physician before making the decision to have any procedure performed. At Maryland Dermatology Laser Skin and Vein and the MD Body Sculpting Center, our team of expert board-certified dermatologists will listen to your concerns and work with you to come up with the best plan of action. Typically, CoolSculpting is best for people who have specific areas of fat deposits that simply haven’t responded to diet and exercise.

Many areas of the body, mainly in the abdomen and love handles, develop fat bulges over time that can be particularly difficult to get rid of completely through diet and exercise alone. If you are looking for a weight loss treatment or to smooth out cellulite, CoolSculpting may not be the right procedure for you. However, if you are frustrated by a particular area of stubborn fat that doesn’t seem to be responding to your efforts, you may want to look into CoolSculpting or DualSculpting as a potential solution!
