Discovering Health Insights Through Observation

What are observational studies?

Observational studies may look at how a medication or treatment works in the real world, after being approved for use, or collect information about patient experiences with a medication or treatment.

How do oberservational studies work?

These studies help identify patterns, such as how social or health backgrounds affect each participants health over time. With this information, we can better understand new medications and how best to use them.

What is it like to be in an observational study?

In an observational study, you and your physician make all the decisions for your treatment. Participants get the same care, medications, or treatments as people who are not in the study. The participant keeps doing his or her usual activities, continues seeing his or her regular physician as scheduled, and answers some questions about his or her health, daily activities, or satisfaction with the treatment. The goal is to observe the participant and understand his or her experience over time.

*The participant can stop taking part in the observational study at any time and for any reason.

Why are observational studies important?

Observational studies are important because they help us understand how diseases, and medications or treatments affect people in a real-life setting. By combining the findings from different observational studies, healthcare professionals can recommend the best practices for patients – leading to better treatments, healthier lives, and new discoveries in medicine.

How would my participation benefit the study?

The success of observational studies depends on people who are willing to participate. With the research team, each participant can help advance medical research, benefiting others and future generations. You participation matters!

What should I consider when joining an observational study?

  • Time commitment: Know how long the study lasts and how long each visit will take, including any travel to arrive. It is important to try to complete the study, as early dropouts can affect the results.
  • Understanding the study: Make sure you understand the purpose of the study, what is expected of you, and the potential benefits and risks involved.
  • Motivating yourself: Think about why you want to join the study. Whether it is to help science, to improve healthcare, or to learn about your health, having a clear reason can help you stay committed to your study participation.

MDLSV Research Studies

MDLSV’s Research Department is currently conducting two interview studies. There is no treatment involved. Participants will be compensated for their time. Please see below.

Study 1:

We are looking for 20 participants between 18-65 years of age to take part in a newly-developed questionnaire study based on whether you have had aesthetic treatments in last 12 months to your face or neck or have not had any treatments, but are bothered by areas on your face or neck.

This requires one visit to the office. The appointment will last around 15-20 minutes. Once this is completed, you will be contacted by the sponsoring company to complete 2 separate online questionnaires, 2 weeks apart. These take about 15-20 mins. You will then be paid $50.00 per completed questionnaire for a total of $100.

Study 2:

We are looking for participants to test a questionnaire that asks about the appearance of your platysma bands (vertical neck bands).

This requires one visit to the office. The appointment will last around 20-30 minutes. Once this is completed, you will be contacted by someone at the sponsoring company to complete an interview via phone that may last approximately 30 minutes. You will then be sent a $150 Visa gift card.

There is limited availability in this study, as we are looking for different individuals in various categories.
