What Is PicoPlus?

Maryland Dermatology Laser Skin & Vein now offers the newest laser by Lutronic that is FDA approved for the treatment of pigmented lesions and tattoo removal: PicoPlus. PicoPlus is a non-ablative pigment laser that offers both picosecond and nanoseconds pulse durations. With picosecond pulses, the treatment results can be faster and more effective with less downtime.

A picosecond pulse is approximately 100 times shorter than a nanosecond pulse and delivers less thermal heat. Because there is less heat in each pulse the risk of damaging the surrounding skin is significantly less than if the laser is using nanosecond pulses. With the shorter picosecond pulse, the laser can use higher power settings to shatter tattoo pigment under the skin into smaller fragments that are more easily removed by the body’s immune system.

MDLSV prides itself in offering patients the latest innovations available to dermatologists; PicoPlus is among the newest innovations in laser treatment. If you have an unwanted tattoo or are affected by pigmented lesions, please contact our office for a consultation to see if you are a good candidate for PicoPlus treatments.

How It Works

Pending FDA approval, Focused Toning uses focused energy to deliver microbeams in a fractional pattern for the treatment of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. RuVY Touch is used in gentle pigment reduction to decrease the risk of PIH. The MDLSV research division is helping to obtain FDA clearance for some new and innovative picosecond laser indications.
