June is Acne Awareness Month!

June 4th, 2015

Acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S., affecting 40-50 million people, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.  Acne scarring can make you feel self-conscious and can lead to a lack of self-esteem.  With the number of adults with acne growing, MDLSV is offering the following helpful tips and treatment considerations in honor of June’s Acne Awareness Month.

  • Adopt a daily routine: Good skin is a daily commitment and gentle skin cleansing or application of acne medications should be part of a morning and evening routine.
  • Know fact from fiction: There are several myths involving acne and acne scarring.  For example, while tan skin may hide the redness of acne, it does not help clear it up. In fact, exposure to UV rays can cause skin cancer and premature aging.  Another misconception is that stress causes acne.  Stress and hormones may be a factor in producing acne, but there are no studies that have been able to definitively prove this link.
  • Explore treatment options: From skin resurfacing to chemical peels, schedule a consultation with MDLSV to review the latest treatments that can improve acne scarring or treat acne.
  • Don’t let acne trap you: For some individuals, acne and acne scarring can have emotional consequences, such as feelings of self-consciousness or lack of self-esteem.  Take advantage of one of our several safe and effective acne treatment options that can help you look and feel better.
